I’ve wanted a Corvette since I was a little kid, playing with matchbox cars. It was one of those irrational things that’s stuck with me my whole life. I fell in love with convertibles in California when I was visiting a friend who lived out there. The freeing feeling of being fully connected to the world around you while you’re driving. With the lack of driving now thanks to the pandemic I didn’t put many miles on my sedan I had for commuting to work. After some conversations we decided it was time to trade the sedan for the Corvette convertible I’ve been looking at for awhile.
I was a mechanic all through high school and college, it’s been a hobby of mine to work on cars that I haven’t really tapped into in a long time. I’ve got a long list of things I’d like to do to this car to reconnect with that hobby. I’m hoping to try and document them here.
The first thing we did to the car was get some new wheels/tires to make it look more modern. I went to the local Discount Tire as I had purchased from them in the past and had a good experience. Even if things don’t go perfectly, they’ve taken care of the issue and I’ve been happy. That actually happened this time, I went in and had everything picked out. They helped me dial it in so everything would fit perfectly but they missed one critical detail, the wheel finish color. I wanted a gunmetal gray but they ordered a polished aluminum. When I went to get them put on they informed of this but already had a solution picked out. They let me keep the wrong finish wheels on the car until the correct ones come in. Due to supply chain delays it will take a month or so to get the real wheels.
Here’s a photo with the “wrong” wheels but it still looks good. Just not the overall look I’m looking for.
